Community Service

Community Service has become a hallmark of our leadership classes. Each term, a service project is identified in the lower grades. In the Fall of this year, a canned food drive to assist the parents and students of the Community Transitional School was completed. The 5th grade class was pleased to be able to deliver 2,300.

The 8th Grade this fall, completed individual service projects around our school. We had dances, talent shows, gatherings and fall parties—all planned by our new 8th grade leaders. By working closely with a team of people, checking-in with the administrator, they developed leadership goals for the term. They they worked on their skills and developed a much stronger sense of who they are.

During the winter months, the 6th grade completed three individual community service opportunities. We visited the Blanchet House, Store to Door, Mercy Corps, Oregon Food Bank and SOLV. The students were able to visit all of these organizations and then wrote a term reflection on their visits and how they can effect the community at large.

During the Spring, the 7th grade will be working on a digital learning experience. These will be compiled and sent to important people in their lives for assessment. The focus of this digital experience, is getting ready for 8th grade leadership.

TRCS will establish partnerships with community organizations, school districts, and local businesses, enlisting their insight and commitment to providing a world-class education for all children. TRCS will obtain financial support and direction from the business community for its educational programs and will seek partnerships with local businesses to attract volunteers.

Community Transitional School

Constrcution%20CTS1.jpgTwice a year we provide food, clothing, school supplies and other much needed resources for this privately funded school for homeless kids in Portland, Oregon. We work to help their needs throughout the year—food drives, clothing drives, school supplies and other items as needed.

This is the new Community Transitional School that is under construction.  They finally have a building after 16 years of traveling the city of Portland. We wish them the very best and look forward to our continued work with them in the future.
