Special Projects

Leadership
Leadership is taught as a distinct discipline at TRCS. Students are able to explore their own leadership skills. Guest speakers share their life experiences with our students. At the conclusion of the student’s tenure at TRCS, they have experienced their ownleadership in relation to their school/community/region/nation.
Service Projects
TRCS believes in teaching responsibility for the community. The community stretches into our larger city of Portland…sometimes nationally and internationally. We encourage students to do multiple service projects throughout the year in their leadership classes. Students often report that this is the most rewarding element of their year.
Our school had adopted the Portland Community Transitional School. We assist this school in food drives, field trips and other events that are available. We continue to give our time and efforts to make the community we live in a better place.
- Jeans Drive for the Community Transitional School Clothing Closet - Students collected 75 pairs of new jeans for girls at the school. Many of these girls have never owned new clothing.

Curriculm Events
In many of our classes, the school finds ways to link the learning to larger frames. Sometimes we have 3-4 months of an all school study. At the end of a school wide event, we would have a public sharing time. Sometimes particular classes have special events to which the public is invited. We work diligently to bring the world closer to our students - throughout all the subject area studies.

Outdoor School
Each year, our 6/7/8th graders attend Outdoor School at Camp Westwind. The week that we try to pinpoint each year is the week before springbreak. Several parents accompany our students to provide home-cooked meals. The week is a favorite! TRCS students are able to attend three years in a row!
Camp Westwind is breathtaking—an outstanding variety of landscape is contained in 500 acres of prime coastline. Stroll two miles of unspoiled ocean beach. Observe the natural salt water estuary and marshlands abundant with wildlife. Play in the rolling sand dunes. Explore the deep rain forests. Meander through meadowlands. Study marine life in coastal tide pools. Discover hidden lakes and bubbling streams. This and much more await us all at Camp Westwind.
Student Activities
Each year, the government structure allows students wide freedom to plan and carry out events for the students of TRCS. These events, such as dances, field trips and recess activities, are executed by TRCS students.
