6/7/8 Social Studies - Financial Literacy

Course Description

In Financial Literacy, students will begin to understand how to manage money and also understand how financial institutions work. We will begin by discussing sources of income and factors that affect earning potential, so that students can better understand the role that their educational and life choices will play in their financial futures. This will lead to a study of money management, including savings and checking accounts, investing, and budgeting. Along with that comes an analysis of debt, loans, interest, and credit cards, and the pros and cons associated with borrowing money. Throughout the course, students will engage in in-class and online simulations through TeachBanzai.com designed to show them the effects of various financial choices and give them hands-on experience with the real-life scenarios that they will encounter as young adults.
