8th Gr. Science

Course Description

During the second term, we will be examining the elements to investigate how matter and chemistry are present in our every day lives. Students will be learning the behaviors and structures of common chemical compositions and discover how we are impacted by more complex structures. Through research, modeling, and design, students will evaluate and create human-centered solutions to global challenges such as clean water, food security, and the medical system. (FALL TERM: This term we will delve into the science of weather and climate. Students will focus on the cycling of water on the earth, the interactions of air masses, patterns within the atmosphere and oceans, natural hazards, weather tools/technology, and human impact on our planet that affect weather and climate. Our hope is to help students gain not only a deeper knowledge of this Earth science, but also to begin to ask more questions and search for the answers to their weather/climate-related questions.
